Human Rights in Africa: Zimbabwe and Cameroon

When: 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Where: Zoom

Join the Harvard African Law Association (HALA) and the Africa Policy Journal (APJ) for a discussion about conflict and the state of human rights in Cameroon and Zimbabwe. Since 2017, Cameroon has been embroiled in a deadly state conflict over the marginalization of the Anglophone minority in the country; till date, the conflict has claimed over 3,000 lives. During the summer of 2020, amidst a global pandemic, Zimbabwe witnessed a series of protests against the rampant human rights abuses in the country. Join Ilaria Allegrozzi, the Senior Central Africa Researcher at the Human Rights Watch, and Jestina Mukoko, a human rights activist and the director of Zimbabwe Peace Project, as they discuss the origins of the respective conflicts; their human rights implications; and prospective next steps.
