Please join the Harvard Human Rights Journal for a panel discussion exploring to what extent the use of technology in law enforcement exacerbates problems of being ‘over-policed and under-protected’ that minority groups in this country face. Important questions of relevance include the disproportionate impact on minorities of growing surveillance capabilities by law enforcement and national security agencies, and the appropriate role of various federal and state actors in regulating law enforcement technology. In the light of social media’s increasing prominence, the panel will also look into the regulation of acts of hatred against minority groups on these platforms, discussing issues such as the obligations and responsibilities of the state and private corporations in responding to them.
This panel, co-sponsored by the Human Rights Program, will conclude with a reception at the HLS Pub for participants and speakers to mingle and continue their conversations over light refreshments.
