Please join the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy for a talk by Beatrice Mtetwa, a Zimbabwean lawyer who has been internationally recognized for her defense of journalists, human rights activists, and others arrested or imprisoned by the Mugabe government. In 2009, she received the European Bar Human Rights Institute’s Ludovic-Trarieux International Human Rights Prize, becoming only the second African to receive that honor (Nelson Mandela was the first). Mtetwa will talk about Zimbabwe’s July election and her own trial on the charge of “obstructing justice,” which is currently underway, as well as discussing her long-running effort to promote the rule of law in Zimbabwe. She will be introduced by Charlie Clements, Executive Director, Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at the Kennedy School of Government.
