Panels Thursday, March 3, on Female Circumcision, the Material Support Law
We had two very interesting (and wildly different) events yesterday, Thursday, March 3. As soon as I get video/audio from the events, I’ll post it here.
“Female Circumcision: Ethics and Human Rights Consideration” begins at 4:00 pm, with Mindy Roseman, our Academic Director, co-moderating the panel. Then it’s on to “The Development of Material Support Law” at 6:00pm, with Tyler Giannini, our Clinical Director, speaking on a panel of four.

The practice of female genital circumcision has been at the center of health and human rights debates for decades. In this panel, we hope to explore the ethical, legal, and human rights dimensions of the practice. These include dimensions of toleration, prohibition, harm-reduction, and cultural competency.
Panelists will include: Dena Davis of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law; Hope Lewis of Northeastern University School of Law; Nawal Nour of Global Ob/Gyn Health Center at Brigham and Womens Hospital Boston; and Sarah Waldeck of Seton Hall Law School.

Please join us for a panel that will explore the implications of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, as well as the current landscape for material support prosecutions in the U.S.
Panelists include: Tyler Giannini, Clinical Director of the Human Rights Program; Susan Akram, Clinical Professor of Law at Boston University School of Law; Claude Bruderlein, Director of the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research at the Harvard School of Public Health; and Maureen Clare Murphy, Organizer of the Palestine Solidarity Group-Chicago, and Managing Editor of The Electric Intifada.
