Areas of Focus

The Human Rights Program works on a range of issues. We specialize in thematic topics and geographic regions where faculty, staff and fellows have particular commitment, expertise, and experience. In these areas, we concentrate our research pursuits as well as our practice and partnerships, helping to shape doctrine, discourse, and policy.  The program has examined topics as diverse as types of discrimination including indirect discrimination, queer rights, political participation, labor organizing, the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, ethnic self-determination, international human rights institutions and mechanisms, religion, and populism. Crosscutting themes such-as universalism and cultural relativism, cultures of rights and duties, and individualism and communitarianism have also figured in our work.

The Human Rights Program’s ongoing and current areas of focus are reflected in our fellowships, events, and publications pages below.
